Katy Perry returns to the airwaves with her brand-new single "California Gurls," which hit radio with a surprise release on May 7. The single is now available for sale digitally worldwide. The track comes from Perry's new album, Teenage Dream, which Capitol Records will release on August 24th in the U.S. and Canada; August 30th in the rest of the world. And because it's practically un-American to release a song that mentions gin and juice without Snoop Dogg, Perry recruited the rap icon to contribute his inimitable vocals to "California Gurls." "We thought it would sound so cool and give the song another dimension," she says. "Snoop is as West Coast as it gets."

Last Tuesday, (May 4th), an internet frenzy erupted as Beyonce, who recently spoke about taking a six month hiatus, personally released her latest video "Why Don't You Love Me". The video received over 1.5 million combined views within the first 60 hours and was a trending Twitter topic during its debut. What's also just as unexpected and interesting as the video's release is the unexpected producers of the song and their story of how the song came to be. "Why Don't You Love Me" was produced by the Houston-based electro trio the Bama Boyz (aka the Bamaz). The trio's members Eddie "E-Trez" Smith III, Jesse J. Rankins and Jonathan D. Wells originally hail from Montgomery, Alabama and have been based in Houston since 2003. When asked about their sound, the Bamaz uniquely describe it as "music schizophrenia." "We're a bit left-field because we mix genres," says Jonathan. When asked by Solange Knowles (the Bamaz produced "ChampagneChroniKnightCap" featuring Lil Wayne & "Valentine's Day" on her latest release) to put instrumentals together for her to write to for her sister Beyoncé, the Bamaz almost purposely left the instrumental for "Why Don't You Love Me" out. "We didn't think it sounded anything like what Beyoncé was recording at the time but we put it in the email anyway just because we knew Solange likes weird records," says Jesse jokingly. "But we made sure to send it last!"

Marty Stuart is set to release a traditional country album Ghost Train (The Studio B Sessions) on August 24, 2010. With his 14th studio album, Stuart steadily continues to lead the charge in preserving the roots, culture and history of traditional country music. "What inspires me now, is traditional country music," says Stuart. "It's the music I most cherish, the culture in which I was raised. It's the bedrock upon which the empire of country music is built, the empowering force that provides this genre with lasting credibility. It's beyond trends and it's timeless. With all that being said, I found traditional country music to be on the verge of extinction. It's too precious to let slip away. I wanted to attempt to write a new chapter." That new chapter is GHOST TRAIN (THE STUDIO B SESSIONS) which includes such unmitigated country staples as the male-female duet (the gorgeous, heartfelt "I Run to You," written and sung with Connie Smith), the chugging, bluesy—and spooky— fellow Mississippian Jimmie Rodgers-like train song "Ghost Train Four-Oh-Ten," steel guitar driven, hardcore heartbreak ballads such as "A World Without You," and "Drifting Apart," and a no-flinching directness is front and center in the premiere of "Hangman," a pointed, harrowing tale of an executioner's job and life that Stuart co-wrote with Johnny Cash just four days before the Man in Black passed away.

The debut four-track EP from Bruno Mars, "It's Better If You Don't Understand," arrived at all digital retailers this week. Best known as one-third of the red-hot production duo The Smeezingtons (Flo Rida, Cobra Starship, Matisyahu), Mars recently stepped into the spotlight with his soulful vocal turns on Rebel Rock Entertainment/Grand Hustle/Atlantic recording artist B.o.B's #1 hit single, "Nothin' On You (Feat. Bruno Mars)" and Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen recording artist Travie McCoy's Top 40 smash, "Billionaire (Feat. Bruno Mars)." Now "IT'S BETTER IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND" sees the Hawaiian-born singer/songwriter/producer unveiling his own deeply personal songs that blend purposefully simple production with irresistible hooks and powerful vocals. Among the collection's highlights is "The Other Side," which sees Mars joined by both B.o.B and the one and only Cee Lo Green (whose hugely anticipated new Elektra/Atlantic solo album, "LADY KILLER," is slated for release later this year). All four tracks on "IT'S BETTER IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND" were produced and written by Mars in collaboration with his Smeezingtons partners, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine.

Boys Like Girls recently fulfilled teenaged fan Alicia Cauffman's biggest wishes by performing at "Seventeen's Ultimate Prom" for her school, Bremen High School located in Bremen, IN. Alicia's video submission for Seventeen Magazine's contest beat out nearly a thousand entries to deliver hit band Boys Like Girls to Cauffman's senior class of 118 students. Both the school and town of Bremen have suffered some hardships throughout the past few years, losing two classmates during their sophomore and junior years of high school. Due to the economy and the fact that many of their parents lost their jobs, the school was forced to hold last year's prom at a local bowling alley, and many students couldn't afford the ticket prices.
