Justin Townes Earle's new album, Harlem River Blues, will be released by Bloodshot Records on September 14. Woody Guthrie once said, "Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple." On Harlem River Blues, Justin Townes Earle takes that lesson to heart, making a statement without making a wall of sound. Compared to the much-lauded Midnight at the Movies, Harlem River Blues is more mature and increasingly nuanced, while still embracing the raw voice and clean sound of previous standout tracks like "Mama's Eyes."

Black Sheep has released a new single from the forthcoming LP From The Black Pool Of Genius. "Party Tonight", featuring Jean Grae demonstrates the long-standing power of the well-executed male/female duet. "It's a 'this feels great' jam," says Jean Grae. "You know, like a party that people actually have fun at - always needed, always timeless." And although Jean Grae says, "Of course it was an honor to record with Dres. The moment was kind of surreal for me," the feeling was mutual. "I had a lot of fun with Jean Grae in the studio," explains Dres. "She's quick-witted and pretty funny... it was nice to see her spit too. Her mechanics are tight. All the components were there from the beginning." Produced by UrbanSoul Music Group, the track comes to life with the nostalgic crackle of a spinning vinyl, a reverb injected guitar melody, and a pocket rhythm section reminiscent of the soulful '70s. Dres and Grae draw on their verbal prowess to decorate the musical fixture with potent imagery of hip-hop's illustrious party scene, all the while remaining true to the actualities of reality.

Listening to Robert Randolph's new album We Walk This Road (out everywhere June 21st), most listeners would assume that the acclaimed steel guitar player had been steeped in traditional blues, gospel, and soul sounds from the earliest days. But surprisingly (especially for a musician renowned for his instinctive power and feeling), Randolph turns out to have come to a lot of this music later in life, in some cases under the guidance and tutelage of famed producer and walking Music History Book, T Bone Burnett. Over the two years recording the album, the crew listened to ancient numbers from the 20s and 30s, music in the public domain and the collective memory of roots, until something hopped out and revealed itself to be pre-ordained. The process was simple: bring volumes upon volumes of tunes into the studio and just dig. According to Randolph, "I was only allowed to listen to modern Christian and gospel music growing up, so there was so much I didn't know about. My mind is expanded now. The record is finished and I still feel as if I'm not done. I've spent over $5,000 on iTunes in the past eighteen months just catching up."

(Submitted News) Of all the acts confirmed for this year's eclectic Newport Folk Festival, perhaps none better personify the 51-year cultural institution than does the New Orleans-based The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, a half-century tradition in its own right. Under the guidance of founder and producer George Wein, Newport Folk has long been known as the granddaddy of all music festivals. And, as they have done in the past, Wein and co-producers Bob Jones and Jay Sweet have spent a lot of time over the last year getting their hands on the current pulse of the music scene. Over the years, the development of this goal has led to some of the most interesting collaborations, and most profound moments, in the history of modern music. It's no wonder this year's search led them to New Orleans' famed Preservation Hall, a place where, as Louis Armstrong once noted, "you'll find all the greats."
