Necro's latest album, DIE!, will be released May 18th through Necro's own Psycho+Logical-Records / RBC / Fontana. Those familiar with Necro, the Brooklyn bred rapper/producer/label-owner know that he single handedly re-defined the term "hardcore" while gaining an enormous cult following behind his flourishing indie rap empire. "asBESTos," the first leak from his forthcoming sixth album, DIE!, finds Necro taking listeners on another ride through the darkest side of hip-hop's rugged terrain where drum hits and calculated flows brutally assault the ears to mind-numbingly pleasant results. Connoisseurs can't help but listen to Necro and reminisce about the days when an emcee's worth was only as good as his words. Necro describes the track as "a go for the throat, brutal and epic" record. This is no understatement, as the Brooklyn anti-hero manages to morph flows effortlessly, bobbing and weaving through piano stabs and the threat of soaring strings. This is not hip-hop for the faint of heart. Coming off of his 2009 production credits on the critically acclaimed Only Built For Cuban Linx II album from Wu-Tang swordsman Raekwon, quite a few folks have wondered what Necro had hidden up his sleeve. Now we know: A scorcher that reasonably predicts yet another outstanding forthcoming album, in DIE!, for Necro.

Once again immersing listeners in the classic soul genre, reminiscent of the 1970's, Rhythm n' Blues artist Darryl Moore reveals the second single from his fast approaching release. "Jamie" is the story of a life in ruins, ruled by dope and desperation. Darryl explains, "The message of this song is that substance abuse can attack even the best of us, even if we are honor roll students with bright futures." He continues, "It's our surroundings; the enemy is on the rise and his poison has destroyed our minds and our children's." Making sure not to detract from the raw, emotive lyrics, Moore layers his voice on top of very straight, simple instrumentals. He describes the song's creation, "Ivan Johnson produced the music and I heard crying in the melody. Because I'd written the song prior to hearing the music, I'd thought it would be a perfect match."

The Hundred in the Hands are set to release their This Desert EP May 18 on Warp Records. This Desert strikes a path that touches on elegant French pop, blissed out dub, house and post-punk. The 6-track EP sets the stage for deeper explorations on a full-length this fall. The Hundred in the Hands is Jason Friedman and Eleanore Everdell. The recently-signed group makes emotionally charged and intensely driving music, which harks back to the most classic of dance songs from NYC's storied underground. The band describes the EP as, "The more ethereal, gauzy side of our tastes; the Summertime-Gothic and dreamy tracks we made thinking they'd go well with open hydrants and looks that kill." But The Hundred in the Hands' self-description belies more than just a dance band. Everdell and Friedman bend and blend styles, sounds and eras into something that doesn't feel confused, fake or forced. It just feels fun.
