Darryl Moore Explains New Single

04/23/2010
.
Once again immersing listeners in the classic soul genre, reminiscent of the 1970's, Rhythm n' Blues artist Darryl Moore reveals the second single from his fast approaching release. "Jamie" is the story of a life in ruins, ruled by dope and desperation.

Darryl explains, "The message of this song is that substance abuse can attack even the best of us, even if we are honor roll students with bright futures." He continues, "It's our surroundings; the enemy is on the rise and his poison has destroyed our minds and our children's."

Making sure not to detract from the raw, emotive lyrics, Moore layers his voice on top of very straight, simple instrumentals. He describes the song's creation, "Ivan Johnson produced the music and I heard crying in the melody. Because I'd written the song prior to hearing the music, I'd thought it would be a perfect match."

The static drumbeat is filled out nicely by an airy organ and a tasteful, ghostly guitar flourishes.

The simplicity of the track lets the vocals stand out, making the story far more potent, as he sings, "In a world of darkness, lost without no hope or place to go, you see, Jamie had it all, and example I can show." Darryl Moore's debut album Where I'm At will be available May 4th via Georgia Anne Muldrow and Declaime's new label, SomeOthaShip Connect.
