SlipKnot,
Self-Titled Album
By:
Sixto Limiac III
After the death sudden
death of great Alternative bands, mainly the prestige band which meant
heaven— Nirvana, the Rock Scene was close to ashes. When independent
bands like KoRn went mainstream, Rock and Metal were flooded. And
these floods are not necessarily a good thing. Pathetic, and incapable
bands are currently invading the once ultimate genre. Thank the lord SlipKnot
appeared, a gang of nine psychopaths. These nine fellows pushed their self-bitterness
into a CD. Their self-titled album has triumphantly surpassed all of today’s
Rock bands. SlipKnot has redefined death-metal.
Hidden behind disturbing
masks, SlipKnot is just a universe of hate. They truly express concern,
hate, and sullen pride. What a better way to express their madness with
the godly and amazing producer—none other than the man, Ross Robinson.
With the direction of the gifted producer, SlipKnot successfully combines
their dankness into beautifully executed music. The lyrics are powerful,
meaningful, and explain their roots. Sure some listeners are turned off
by screaming, but the way Corey, the vocalist, executes it is rememberable.
He mixes fearsome roaring with true singing. It gives respect, knowing
hate created them, their words are powerful. However fame is beginning
to shed light on this underground band. Please the who goes by the name
of music television, step away.
Unlike must Hardcore
bands, Corey does not just outcry his anguish, but sings it in with a surprising
melody. His screaming is sturdy, almost as if you can feel his singing
and decipher his pain. His vocals are top-notch and exquisite, many props
to his gifted singing. The instruments are simply breath-taking, wrecking
havoc! The band is loud, and a crushing bazaar!
Guitars are fast
and darn right furious. Drums are speedy, just madness. Two percussionists
play eerie echoes. Turntables are flawed, and may get annoying, but with
Corey bleeding his lungs out, and the instruments combined, it emits harsh,
striking music.
If Ross Robinson
was absent, I’m assured SlipKnot would not have been so fresh and appealing
with rich anger. Anger can be music, but too much shrilling can be a problem.
“Wait and Bleed,” is a prime example of harmonious singing mixed with sharp
shouting. Ross Robinson has a vivid role (his great days probably with
the once great band known as KoRn). Sellouts are very common, but
the brutal force of SlipKnot is unlikely to wind up as MTV puppets. Underground
bands are where the best dwell, and SlipKnot is no exception. A supreme
CD, destroying and adding talent onto Metal. SlipKnot’s self-titled album
is a money-darn-well-freakin-spent CD. Get it now for motivation, mad headbanging,
or running into a frenzy at a mosh or just utter inspiration. . .”And it
waits for you!”
