Iggy and the Stooges - A Tribute to Ron Asheton

.
Filmed at the Michigan Theater in the Stooges' hometown of Ann Arbor about two years after the 2009 death of Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, this film presents both a typical Iggy Pop/Stooges show and a touching tribute to Asheton.

Guest MC Henry Rollins begins the show with a spoken tribute and then sings the set opener, "I Got a Right." Iggy then comes on stage and rips through Stooges classics "Raw Power" and "Search and Destroy;" also included in the set are favorites "I Wanna Be Your Dog," "TV Eye," "Fun House," "Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell" and "Gimme Danger," for which Iggy invites the crowd to come onstage and dance while the song plays.

After shooing the "Ann Arbor Dancers" off the stage at song's end, the Stooges launch into "1970," "L.A. Blues" and two cuts from the Kill City album, "Night Theme" and "Beyond the Law."

Surprisingly, an orchestra joins the band for a few songs, and maybe not surprisingly Iggy chokes up near show's end as he talks about Asheton before playing a musical eulogy in "Ron's Tune."

The Stooges line-up here is Iggy on vocals, James Williamson and Deniz Tek of Radio Birdman on guitars, Steve Mackay on sax, Mike Watt on bass and Ron's brother Scott Asheton on drums. The show ends with a raucous rendition of "No Fun."
