L.A. Guns - Acoustic Gypsy Live

.
It's hard to imagine a raucous group like L.A. Guns doing an acoustic record but the title of this album is a little misleading. True, the arrangements are stripped down, but most songs feature a full band. Singer Jizzy Pearl, who quit the band shortly after this recording was made, sounds good throughout and with his rasp toned down on "Crystal Eyes," during the slightly schmaltzy "Dreamtime" and on "Electric Gypsy" where he channels Robert Plant. Tracii Guns meanwhile does some fancy acoustic guitar picking, proving that he doesn't need volume and effects to grab the listener. A dozen songs from the band's voluminous back catalog are performed along with nice takes on Otis Redding's soulful "These Arms of Mine" and the Boudleaux Bryant chestnut "Love Hurts."
