Sister Hazel - Release

.
August 18 marked the date of Sister Hazels 7th release of all original music in a 12 track disc titled Release. The group formed in Gainesville Florida in the mid 90's and has been relentlessly making albums full of their southern influenced folk rock ever since.Release is pretty much what you'd expect in a Sister Hazel album, great melodies and harmonies that actually make you sing along. When the group began to work on this album they decided to use a concept they used before on a 2007 Christmas album. The process is a true collaboration in where each of the 5 members write their own songs and the band then sifts through all the tunes and collectively choose the songs to be include on the disc. This process seems to work well and also showcases the different member's talent in song writing. Each member of the band has at least 2 of their own songs on Release and as a whole the entire disc plays out very well. A few of my favorite songs off the album would be "Take A Bow," "Vacation Rain" and a ballad named "One Life". There's no experimentation or anything really new on this disc if you're familiar with Sister Hazel's music but it is a commendable collection of songs that the members should be proud of. I would recommend any fans of Sister Hazel to pick up this disc and if your not familiar with them and enjoy southern style mellow rock give this album a listen. Useless Information - Sister Hazel got their name from Sister Hazel Williams, a local nun who ran a homeless shelter in Gainesville.
