Revolting Cocks - Sex-O Olympic-O

Revco busts a nut for you once again with the release of Sex-O Olympic-O, and one thing is immediately clear: their sound hasn't changed. Not that that's a bad thing. Revco shoots around in musical styles covering cheesy 80's synth-pop to the hairiest of hair metal and everything that you could imagine in between. However, Revco has always been about having fun, and even though the music does lean on the pounding, industrial drum machine beats and grinding synth–just as it always has–you can actually have fun with this! This album has Jourgensen behind the reigns again producing, writing, and playing, with Josh Bradford (vocals), Sin Quirin (guitars), and Clayton Worbeck (keyboards) filling out the lineup. This time around the material deals with everything from robot hookers and making out with your hot cousin, to coming out of the closet and having sex competitions. In other words, just your average, ordinary fun-for-the-whole-family record that the kids will just love! Jourgensen claims to have made the perfect album. "This is the best RevCo album I've ever done. As a matter of fact, I think this is the best album–including Ministry, Pailhead, Lard–anything I've ever done, period. Production-wise, song-wise, I'm really, really happy with this record." Those are big words. Actually, those are frickin' huge words, noting the enormous success of such greats as The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste, Psalm 69, The Last Temptation of Reid, and Big Sexy Land. But if anybody can pull that off, it would be the man behind every one of those albums, and who are we to argue? Actually, I don't think it's anywhere near as great as earlier Ministry and Lard; in fact, the only albums I think Sex-O outshines would be Spoon, Pig, and Mole. But, if the man says it, so it goes. One song from Sex-O in particular, 'Abundant Redundancy,' harkens back to another classic, Land of Rape and Honey, which I was glad to hear. Another track, 'Lewd Ferrigno,' has an unmistakable 'Thieves' riff buried towards the end, which was more than welcome. Overall, Sex-O Olympic-O is a fine record, and if you're anything close to a RevCo fan, you won't be disappointed. It takes the tried and true industrial metal formula and wraps a roll of barbed-wire around synth pop and hair metal genres and churns out something only a RevCo mother would love. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, stay away from this record, or get yourself familiar with the Revolting Cocks really quick.
