Motorleague - Black Noise

There's no umlaut over the second "o" in this group's name so don't expect Motorleague to be some kind of Motorhead knock-off or tribute band. The band does have something in common with Lemmy and company though; they play fast and hard and go for the knockout with every punch. Black Noise opens with "Big Times" and "Fossils," a couple of "I'm pissed-off" numbers where you can't actually discern from the lyrics where the anger is directed. Doesn't matter---vocalists Don Levandier and Nathan Jones say more with their screaming guitars than they do with their vocal cords and the message comes through very loud and clear---you're gonna get stung. The band stumbles a little when they try to be Thin Lizzy on "You Wear Me Down" but they do a better job channeling the Foo Fighters which they do for a majority of the album and to especially good effect on "The Ones You've Left Behind." Many of the songs here come off as over-produced but when you hear near-perfect rockers like "Face Time with the Boss" you can forgive the band a little excess elsewhere.
