Brigham Bachman

I never review demo tapes but this one was so exceptional I couldn't resist being the first one to tell you about it. Brigham Bachman hails from Victoria, British Columbia and this singer-songwriter is already a master of his craft. His sound has shadows of the mid '70s and he can croon with a soothing warm-as-apple-pie vocal or he can bring the rock.

The first track I heard by Briggs was "The First Time" and the subtle guitar intro drew me in. The relaxed vocal with a couple of great verses hooked me in and then I was blown away by the EXCELLENT chorus. Briggs has a voice that just sounds like everything is effortless and even in the rockier parts he sounds like a brick house in a hurricane --- no worries.

"Take Your Love" is another fantastic song. His flexible vocals kick off the cut which, driven by an irresistible bass line, is just magic from beginning to end. His more organic songs like the serenely gorgeous "Fall's Here" have a pure songwriter's touch and his engaging guitar work support the songs impressively.

The mid-tempo stuff like "Ladyflower" (which has a slight prog --- think Moody Blues --- kind of feel) and "Missed Out On You" and "Girlstar" all have memorable choruses and stick in your head.

This guy is still writing and on the cusp of getting attention. I hate to put other artists down but c'mon, if James Blunt can get his girly emo-ness all over the radio then Briggs can positively crush him if he gets the chance. Check out his MySpace from the link below and remember who told you about him first. Brigham Bachman is absolutely heading for greatness!
