Tribe After Tribe - M.O.A.B.

by J. Simpson

.
Tribe after Tribe are a unique South African band formed some 23 years ago. Led by a sort of mystical frontman named Robbi Robb, the band has released roughly 6 albums amid many changes in musicians and record labels. Robb has his own vision and conception of past and present events of the world and strives to interpret these emotions through his music. On October 14 Tribe After Tribe have released a 16 track collection of new music called M.O.A.B. Stories of Deuteronomy.

You may wonder why TAT is not more well known considering how long they've been making music. There could be many factors contributing to this like the switching of labels several times to the changing of band members through almost every disc but I believe the main reason is that the music of TAT is an eccentric type of art, not created for the mainstream and hard to put in any type of category. M.O.A.B. falls right in line with this type of music. When playing this album you will hear a type of grunge/metal/rock with certain tribal sounds and religious undertones vibrating throughout. The songs emit a mysterious powerful larger than life sound pleading the listener to open their mind and read deep into the messages Robb is attempting convey. Some of my favorite tunes off the disc are Holy City Warrior, Shock & Awe and Supreme One. I'll state again, this is not your normal music and you won't be hearing any of these songs on the radio (at least not in the U.S.) but if your like me, always striving to hear new innovative music, go to TAT's myspace and check out a couple clips from them, they may catch your ear.
