According to the bio on her website Sarah Borges makes music because she has no choice. All I can say is that as listeners, we are lucky that is the case. Sarah has a voice that is reminiscent of Natalie from Dixie Chicks minus some of the twang. For the most part, the album is based in roots music, with no better example than the pure honky tonk goodness of "False Eyelashes." This song is absolutely brilliant and I have a hard time listening to it just once.This album contains a good amount of twang ("Belle of the Bar," "Lord Only Knows") but you can't call it a straight country album. There is plenty of blue-collar rock mixed in, particularly in "Lonely Town of Love" and "Diablito." The background vocals in the bluesy "Open up Your Back Door" somehow remind me of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The band also delves into a 60s garage sort of sound with "Stop and Think it Over." On the website, Sarah admits that she prefers singing songs that are "sad or pissed." This album does contain some sad, heartfelt songs. In "Belle of the Bar," for example, Sara laments that "I'm always the girl they dance with, but I'm never the one that they want to take home." This is just a really good tune. I don't know what else to say other than I enjoy this album. The songs are a nice blend of rock and roots and the vocals are good. If anything, this album is too short. This is one that's pretty easy to listen to repeatedly. Do yourself a favor; go out and get this album.
