Lords - F**k All Ya'll Motherf**kers

by Dawn Marie Fichera

.
Chris Owens is a live-wire. Short-fused and dangerous in that gritty, punkish, death-metal kind of way; the way that takes your ill-perceived notion of a shiny perfect world and spits it back into your face. With F**k All Ya'll Motherf**kers Lords gives us 25 minutes of completely unhinged, violent, black-metal laced with words of wisdom tucked deceptively underneath a torrential down pouring of sound.

For an indie outfit out of bourbon country, nearly a year after the completion of F**k all y'all Motherf**kers, which houses Eric from Lickgoldensky, and suffering through a painful process of re-shopping the second full-length album recorded by Lords, Black Market Activities finally, opted to release the sophomore album to the public. And for that, we thank you. Get ready for the wildest roller-coaster ride of your life.

A cursory glance at the song titles from Lord's Album, F**k All Ya'll Motherf**kers, including "F**king With Fire," "Damnation of Memory," "Cause All of You Are F**ked," recorded at Headbanging Kill Your Mama Music, sums up a lifetime of obsolescence, apathy, and dissatisfaction only a musician with a knack for punching out a founding member of the band could possibly muster.

Stream–of-consciousness type lyrics like, /…my loss is your gain/your pleasure brings my pain/you thrive on my bad luck/that is why I don't give a f**k, from track two, "Why I Don't Give a F**k", and, /Living waist deep in Sh*t/If I don't get the f**k out of here I'll put a bullet in my brain/ but I will take a few of you motherf**kers out first/, from track three, "Waist Deep in Sh*t," assault the listener into agreement. Makes me wish I had the testicular fortitude (read: balls) to say it to the world myself.

Before you think that this album is a cornucopia of discordant sound, as the first track, "Robbed, Raped, and Beaten," would suggest, make no mistake, there is a visionary at work. One would be remiss to not pay homage to the absolute perfectionist manner Eric painstakingly applies to the recording and playing of his music. The multi-layered tracking underpinning each song boasts heavy, thick guitar riffs ensnared by raw vocal drilling. His torrid, affecting vocal prowess is not for the faint of heart.

Track 10, "Blasphemy Act," made me feel like my ears were bleeding, stricken by the raucous hard-ledged guitar solos that sliced and chopped through heavy percussion support. After a slight pause in the track, it fires up again slapping you around and bullying you. Speed metal greeted by guttural howling reminiscent or Rammstein effectively beat the remaining comfort and control out of me.

Thrashers, shredders, and mosh-pit-destroyers will fall in love with the angry energy behind track 14 "Goodnight Sweet Prince," and razor blade sales may jump after listening to track 15, "Man. Everything Sucks" where his lyrics take on a public confessional: /Everything I see I want to kill/it's all so f**ked it can never be right/I want to kill/. In case you didn't get it, the guy's a little pissed off and wants to kill.

Seriously, if you could take up all the deep-rooted anger seething beneath the translucent surface of your skin, all the pugnacious blathering of a psychopathic killer, all the defamatory remarks that a childhood bully ever managed to whisper to you as he beat your face in, toss it in a mixing bowl and produce a sound for all that pent-up rage, you would justifiably churn out the overtly apathetic noise oozing from the pricked veins of Chris Owens's embittered soul.

Listening to this album made me feel violent, torn-up and dirty. And I liked it.
