The Faint - Fasciinatiion Review

by J Simpson

.
The Faint have been spitting out albums since the mid nineties and with the release of their latest CD titled Fasciinatiion on August 5th will make around 8 albums in total, not counting any EP's or remixes. The group, hailing from Omaha, Nebraska seems to have found their niche in techno club dance music and they're not looking back as they continue to churn out the kind of tunes that has made them successful.

Even though Fasciinatiion was released 4 years after The Faints last disc and the group decided to take more control by chucking their label and self releasing this CD under their own label blank.wav, the music doesn't wander. The 10 song collection screams Dance, Fun, Party all night. The lyrics involve different issues from long past memories to modern problems that weigh heavy on the conscious. Neo synthesizers and techno noises abound throughout the collection with guitar riffs and drum beats that are pulled together by static like vocals. One of my favorite tracks is also the first single called "The Geeks Were Right" or the lead track "Get Seduced."

The Faint are a true techno band and although the sound may not be original they have embraced that aspect and solely strive to do it better than anybody else. If you were a fan of the group before, you should definitely pick up Fasciinatiion, if you enjoy any kind of electronic, club dance music give the disc a try, it might tickle your techno toes.
