In 2001 a rock band was starting to form in Memphis Tennessee with a never say die attitude. That rock band named Egypt Central adopted their name from one of the meanest streets in their hometown and right away was presented the opportunity to get into the studio under Lava Records to record their debut self titled disc. The collection consisted of 11 rocking tracks and Egypt Central were chomping at the bit to get this record out when the brakes were abruptly applied by that misguided cooperate machine we call the music industry. Downsizing and a merger within the Lava Records inner makings left many bands including Egypt Central with a finished disc but no label for distribution or promotion. Thankfully in early 2006 they had garnered enough attention that independent label, Bieler Bros. Records came calling and signed E.C. with the plan of releasing the disc in August. But wait, in July 2006 the band announced they have parted ways with their new found label just one month before the release of the disc (rock n roll and turmoil always go hand in hand you gotta love it). Now that the never say die attitude has been put to the test E.C. caught a brake when in the summer of 2007 they signed a new record deal with Fat Lady Music/ILG and after going through all those "re's" remixing, remastering and resequencing in January 2008 the Egypt Centrals debut self titled disc was finally released. Now, too the actual music, like I said before its 11 tracks with most being rockers and a couple slower to mid tempos thrown in. Two of the songs were even chosen to be on movie soundtracks. "Over and Under" was featured on The Condemned soundtrack and "Taking You Down" was on the soundtrack of the movie The Cave. In listening to the entire album you realize right away that this is not a new sound as several comparisons can be made to many other bands out there right now making this type of music but E.C. seem to do a commendable job and with this first disc under their belt maybe the music gods will smile upon them and in their sophomore effort they will grow into their own distinct sound. They definitely have the ability.
