Earshot - The Silver Lining Review

by J Simpson

.
On August 26th Earshot will be releasing their 3rd studio album titled The Silver Lining. This marks an important point in Earshot's survival considering in early 2005 even after their first 2 discs both showcased songs that peaked in the top 10 of the charts, their label Warner Brother's Records decided to drop the band for some idiotic recording industry B.S. I'm sure. After that Earshot's actual existence was feared but luckily the chaps in the band are real rock and roll musicians so never giving up and giving the finger to the corporate music biz is how they roll. In early 2007 the band signed with InDeGoot / Fontana/ Universal Recordings and proceeded to assemble an 11 song collection for their first release in 4 years.

The Silver Lining picks up right where Earshot left off. They are an alternative rock/metal band with a melodic nu/metal sound. From the beginning Earshot was being compared to Tool mainly because Wil Martins vocals sound a lot like Mr. Keenans but that's about as far as the comparison should go in my opinion(I almost put IMO there but I hate that crap), Earshot are their own band not quite as experimental or alternative as Tool. The songs are right on par with their first 2 discs, plenty of hooks and riffs with mid tempo nasty grooves to please the listener. The lead track "Closer" is one of my favorites and "Missunderstood" is another stand out track. I would have liked to have had a few more heavier tunes on the disc but it is what it is and as Earshot's other work the lyrics are exceptional. Towards the end of the album the songs start to kinda wane or grow tired but it's still decent music.

I'm pulling for Earshot, I hope this disc is a success and they keep making music.
