One or two lines into the first track on Diona Devin's debut record, you know she's the real deal. Her voice just curls around each note, like she's giving you little bits of her in music form. The singer-songwriter from San Francisco's music is a little bit country and a little rock and roll. It kind of walks the line between the two and you could easily give the treatment to a song to make it one or the other. The songs are really strong, no surprise since Devin won the 2001 ASCAP Lilith Fair songwriting contest. Her voice is what really makes it, however. From upbeat songs like "No More Chaos" to the ballad "Bend", you hang on her every syllable. This is a terrific record and Diona is definitely someone to watch in the future.
