Darkest Hour - Deliver Us Review

With Darkest Hour's fourth Victory Records release "Deliver Us", we find what is becoming all too common in metal; a leaning towards predictable breakdowns and riffs, standard and seemingly constant double bass, and growling vocals that sound like the vocalist is trying a bit too hard to be metal. Such is the case with "Deliver Us". While it's not a horrendous album, it's far from noteworthy among some of the better executed metal releases this year. Searing guitars, driving bass, and thunderous drums can be felt throughout, but the thing that holds this release back is its lack of the ability to stand out in a crowd. This is the kind of metal release you'd expect from a band's first or second major release, but being that this is the fourth release on Victory, in addition to a slew of full-length and EP releases dating as far back as 1996, you'd expect the band to have come much further by now.
