Kacey Musgraves 'Follows Her Arrow' to Joshua Tree In New Video
. "It was probably some of the most fun I've ever had," the GRAMMY-nominated artist told Radio.com about the video shoot. "It was [filmed] out in Joshua Tree, out in the desert, and I really think the landscape is gorgeous out there. You see all these crazy-looking trees, it looks like Dr. Seuss-land." But as "gorgeous" and "desolate" as the landscape is out there, what Musgraves also aimed to showcase in the video were the people involved. "We had all these amazing characters and really just wanted to capture the spirit of what the songs means," Musgraves explained. And so instead of the pickups trucks and tailgate parties that have become synonymous with so many of today's country songs and videos, Musgraves' video focuses on dancing preachers, a miniature pony, an impressive array of kitschy western outfits (one complete with cap guns and holsters) and lots of neon arrows pointing every which way. "I just love kitsch," Musgraves said of the costumes. "And my band members are in Nudie suits, total Porter Wagoner-style, rhinestoned-out amazing suits — it looks really good." As for the song itself, it "means a lot to me for a lot of different reasons," she explained. "The message, it being so positive and uplifting for all kinds of people, is something I'm really excited about putting out there." Artists and fans from not just country but across genres have been receptive to the song, she said. "I just love the thought of championing people no matter what they're into. You're not going to be everybody's cup of tea, so make yourself happy." Watch the video plus a behind-the-scenes look at Kacey's "Follow Your Arrow" video shoot, exclusively on Radio.com here.
