(hennemusic) Thin Lizzy are retiring their band name out of respect for the late Phil Lynott. The groupwill not be releasing their new album under the name and will soon stop touring under the legendary moniker. Last month, Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham confirmed the band will start recording a new album this fall. The project marks the group's first studio album since 1983's "Thunder And Lightning," and its first since the passing of frontman Phil Lynott, who died in 1986.
The current line-up features Lizzy veterans Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton, with Ricky Warwick on vocals, ex-Whitesnake man Marco Mendoza on bass and former Alice Cooper guitarist Damon Johnson.
Now, after a very successful 2-year run with the current lineup, Thin Lizzy have made a decision to not release the new album under the Thin Lizzy name. "Out of respect to Phil Lynott and the legacy he created, we have decided that we should not release a new album under the Thin Lizzy name," says Gorham. Read the rest of his statement here.
