Today bellylove guitarist Lisa Black tells us the humorous story behind the title track from their new album release, "Circles and Darkness". Here is the story:Circles and Darkness is a song written in the key of B minor, just two half steps below what Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnel calls the "saddest of all keys". The song is haunting and sticks in your mind for days after hearing it.
Of all the original songs we play live, Circles and Darkness is the most fun for me because it journeys from reggae to riff rock, from Jamaica to Sunset Blvd in less than 3 minutes.
The song's title was inspired by a trip to Disneyland, the "happiest place on earth" which is ironic, given it's key and all, while on the ride "Space Mountain" a really dark, indoor roller coaster that goes around in circles, really fast.
The lyrics were inspired by the adventures of Harry Potter, the drums by Neil Pert, the guitar by Foghat and the bass by Geddy Lee. It's available for download on cdbaby, iTunes and Amazon, check it out, "your' gonna like the way you feel".
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album (and be sure to check out their "I'm too old for American Idol" video) right here!
