Sites & Sounds: ShipRocked- M For Montreal- More

11/02/2012
.
antiMusic Travel Editor Kevin Wierzbicki tells us about upcoming music events this month including ShipRocked 2012, Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival, and M For Montreal.

Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival
November 8 – 18, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida

This festival is a bit unusual in that it takes place in several locations and across state lines but the Gulf of Mexico-hugging communities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama and Perdido Key and Pensacola, Florida are all within close proximity of one another so making the rounds to see the artists of your choosing should not be a problem. The festival is also a bit different in that famous songwriters and players appear right alongside new talents; some of those in the former category scheduled to appear include Sonny Throckmorton, Grayson Capps, Joey + Rory, Randall Bramblett, Billy Dean, Carl Jackson, E. G. Kight, Billy Earl McClelland, Suzi Ragsdale, Gove Scrivenor, Michael Smotherman and Keith Stegall. Among the youngest of new talents scheduled to appear are 16-year-old Courtney Yovich, Mobile's Sara Stearman (18), Pensacola native Jourdan Pace (19), Abigail Osteen (16) and local girls Brittany Cole (14) and Summerlyn Powers (11). M For Montreal
November 14 - 17, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Performers come to Canada's French speaking province from all over the world for M For Montreal but the festival is an excellent opportunity for music fans to hear regional performers; among the Quebec-based acts appearing this year are Mozart's Sister, Eight and a Half, Esmerine, Blue Hawaii, Honheehonhee, Mac DeMarco, Koriass, Philippe B., Les Trois Accords, David Giguere and Maia Leia. Canadian acts from outside the area who will also appear include Half Moon Run, Suuns, the Mistress Barbara Band, Cadence Weapon, Socalled, Memoryhouse, Plants and Animals, Yamantaka//Sonic Titan and Odonis Odonis. Iceland's Of Monsters and Men will appear as will France's Danger; among those representing the U.S. are Paper Diamond, Sun Airway and A Place to Bury Strangers. www.mpourmontreal.com

ShipRocked 2012
November 27 - December 1, Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas

Now in its fourth year, this festival-at-sea aboard the MSC Poesia will have attendees rocking out with co-headliners Godsmack and Korn on a cruise that begins and ends in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and includes stops in Key West and Nassau, the Bahamas. Also scheduled to rock the waves are Five Finger Death Punch, Helmet, Fuel, Black Stone Cherry, Sevendust, P.O.D., Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Gilby Clarke (Guns N'Roses), Filter, Lit, In This Moment, Write This Down, Dead Sara, the Halo Method, Pop Evil and Andy Wood & the Amalgam. Cruisers who don't have a passport can meet federal regulations by bringing their original birth certificate or a certified copy.
