Today Prozak tells us about "End Of Us" and "Million Miles Away" from his brand new album "Paranormal". Here is the story:End Of Us: The track "End of us" came about spontaneously and furiously. I was in Flint Michigan, hanging out with some musician friends. They decided to play me this music they had written specifically with me in mind. They strapped on their guitars and geared up as the drummer lead into into it. Within the first 10 seconds I was hooked.. I glanced around the practice room to find a mic on a stand. The motivation of the heavy riffs and pounding drums mesmerized me to spit whatever lyrics came to the top of my head. I started screaming "Extortion, distortion, the words that they believe, my friend this is the End of us... "
The music gave me an instant vibe of anger and rage fueled by the oppression and misdirection of our lives via profit worshiping corporate machines. I think we ran through the song 4-5 times, and I just continued writing "on the mic" the entire time. After they made a demo out the track, I told them it was time to take them to a major studio. I wanted the production to be flawless, so I booked time at Catamount Studios in Cedar Falls, IA who known for their work on Slipknot and Stone Sour albums.
Once we record the music, I felt like there was something missing.. That's when I grabbed the phone and called my friend Sid Wilson from Slipknot. I needed the flavor that only DJ STARSCREAM could bring with his melodic cuts and scratches. Once he heard the music and the lyrics he went straight to his massive catalog of vinyl. Soon after, he recorded the missing element to the song and it was exactly what I hoped it would be and then some. Sid and I have a very similar belief system as well as have the same grudges with those who seek to destroy our freedoms and minds. Later we shot the video for "End of Us", I directed the video myself and had my right hand Adam Eugenio behind the camera. I choose the perfect location in an abandoned factory in Detroit which once thrived during the automotive heyday and now it's cold and desolate. I felt the lyrics come to life while shooting in the 15 degree weather, surrounded by industrial steel and broken glass. As I looked around, I thought of what once was my friend... This is the end of us. Check it out here
Million Miles Away: I sometimes get plagued with insomnia and while watching the news one night I felt some inspiration to write. I put in a beat produced by Michael Seven Summers and let the ink run on my lyric pad and the title came to mind first "Million Miles Away". The song would be about the one question I often ponder. If we could start all over, would mankind learn from its mistakes, or are we doomed creatures of habit?
I felt a lot of emotion overcome me while writing on that nervous winter night. I poured a drink of whisky and took short breaks to watch footage on YouTube. Woodstock, Vietnam war footage, desert storm, and on and on.
After finishing the lyrics and recording, I knew this song deserved a video. The video had to be worthy of the song. I thought for many days, never happy with the treatments I wrote. One day it hit me,I was looking at the huge dry-erase board in my office, which was full of film/music deadlines, when I zoned out. Despite all the writing on the board, I only saw the board itself. Finally, I went and bought a small hand held dry-erase board and hit the streets. I approached people on the streets and asked them, "If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?"
