The White Stripes Release Recording of Live Debut

07/12/2012
.
(Gibson) The White Stripes have released their first-ever live show. The vinyl-only release is part of a package available through Third Man Records' "Vault" series, a quarterly subscription service offered by the Jack White-owned label.

The 7-inch vinyl recording was taped on July 14, 1997, during an open-mic night at the Gold Dollar in Detroit. The soundboard recording features a version of "Jimmy the Exploder," which later appeared on the White Stripes self-titled debut, along with covers of "Love Potion #9" and the traditional blues tune, "St. James Infirmary."

Also included in the package is a Live at the Gold Dollar 12" LP, recorded on August 14, 1997. The August performance, which includes a "blistering cover" of The Stooges' "TV Eye," constitutes the band's first full-length concert. Rounding out the package is a tote bag emblazoned with the White Stripes' classic peppermint logo. The deadline to sign up to The Vault, in order to obtain this package, is July 31. more on this story
