Top 12 male from Season 10 of American Idol, Tim Halperin, will actually be imprisoned to symbolize how he felt about the limitations placed on him by his American Idol contract. We received the following:
Beginning Monday, Sept. 26, at 5 a.m., Tim Halperin will enter an actual jail cell in the parking lot of West Village Shopping Center in Dallas (located at the intersection of Lemmon and McKinney Avenues, just one mile north of downtown Dallas). Hell remain in the jail cell until 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27.Symbolic of the contract restrictions placed on Halperin from his time as a top 24 semi-finalist on Season 10 of American Idol, the voluntary prison sentence will be shown LIVE online here.
The Omaha native and Texas-based artist will release his long-awaited, independently recorded debut full-length album, Rise and Fall, on Sept. 27 on iTunes corresponding with his release from jail and his American Idol contract.
Halperin began work on the album in 2010, prior to his time on Idol, and has spent the past year in the studio finalizing the project with producer Jordan Critz, who has worked with The Fray, Third Eye Blind and Lifehouse.
This contract has felt like being in prison because I havent been able to do what I love most: share my music with others, Halperin said. I was nearly finished with this album more than a year ago, but Ive had to wait on its release for several months. Im finally going to be set free from American Idol prison on September 27th the same day as the release of my debut full-length album on iTunes.
As part of his prison sentence, Halperin will be accepting donations for Kidds Kids a nonprofit founded by nationally syndicated morning show personality Kidd Kraddick, who has hosted Halperin on his show numerous times. The organization offers support to chronically and terminally ill children.
The first track on my CD is a song I wrote for Kidds Kids and all the proceeds from that song will go to the organization, Halperin said.
Halperin is encouraging local Dallas fans and supporters to visit his jail cell for autographs, pictures and conversation. Fans who donate to Kidds Kids will be entered into a raffle for a free concert by Halperin.
