(Gibson) A U.S. Beatles contract, up for auction this month, shows that the band were very aware of civil rights issues in '60s America.According to the Guardian newspaper, in documents regarding a concert at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California, in 1965, The Beatles stated that they will not play in front of a "segregated audience." They also demanded "no less than 150 uniformed police officers for protection" and a "special drumming platform for Ringo [Starr]." The band's rider also demands that their trailer has "electricity and water" and that "all dressing rooms for The Beatles, the purchaser must provide four cots, mirrors, an ice cooler, portable TV set and clean towels." more on this story
