(RockAAA's Mick Wall) I'm off to London today to listen to the new Loutallica album. That is, I'm off to London to sit in a basement room at some anonymous hotel with a bunch of other chosen-ones from the media, to listen to the Loutallica album. Our bag and phones will be placed into a 'secure room' while we do this, we've been informed. And biogs and lyrics will be given out to us. Ooh, thanks. From this I shall be required to write an extensive review for Classic Rock magazine. Hardly the most promising way you would have thought, for someone to say anything meaningful about so apparently important a release. And you would be right. It's probably about the worst way possible, in fact. I guarantee you a week from now I will remember nothing about it worth talking about.
None of which, I hasten to assure you, I am complaining about. No one is holding a gun to my head. I just genuinely wish to hear, if only fleetingly for now, what I appear to be alone in thinking might just be one of the albums of the year.
What I wish to comment on here is what a symbol this patently ridiculous situation is of everything that is screwed-up about the calcified so-called 'modern' music biz. more on this story
