Today Errol Antzis from Psychoteria tells us about "Way Out" from their brand new album "I Think I'll Just Stay Home". Here is the story: I wrote this song during a combination of crises: the financial market meltdown, a severe illness in my family, job issues and because of these a general malaise. All I could think of was attempting to find a way out of the mess, whether it meant simply running away or something more severe. Luckily, I decided to vent my angst in song and lyrics rather than taking any more drastic action. While I truly appreciate lyrics that are a bit opaque, have double-entendres and the like, "Way Out" is very literal. It describes exactly how I felt at the time, and I think the guitar solo also completely expresses the sentiments – somewhat lyrical but a bit "bent".
I used a number of different guitars on this song, including a highly EQ'd Martin Herringbone to give the song a scratchy rhythmic feel, as well as a Jimmy Page Les Paul set to a split-coil sound. The middle solo was performed on a Strat with a vibrato tailpiece. I used a number of ProTools plug-ins for the guitars, including Amplitube and Amp Farm. All of the mixing was done "in the box".
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
