(Gibson) Guitar great Les Paul was inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville on Sunday. Les Paul was among a group of music industry notables honored with a star on the sidewalk in Nashville's Music Mile at Walk of Fame Park.Hundreds turned up to watch the ceremony that was kicked off by Nashville Mayor Karl Dean. Those inducted alongside Les Paul were Manuel Cuevas, Alan Jackson, Dan Miller, Bobby Jones, Dottie Rambo and Kix Brooks. Gibson Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz said he was honored to induct Les Paul. He said it was fitting that Les Paul, "who changed the world with his exploration of guitar and his love of people and performance" should be honored in Nashville.
"Les actually got his start, in a way, at the Ryman Auditorium," Juszkiewicz said, referencing the famous Nashville venue and former home of the Grand Ole Opry. One day when Les way a young, guitar-obsessed boy, his mother, "packed him in the car and drove him to the Ryman Auditorium and stood at the side of the stage and implored every star that walked up on the stage to give Les a moment of time on the stage. Finally someone relented and Les made his first public performance at the Ryman." more on this story
