Keith Urban To Have Throat Surgery

11/07/2011
.
(Gibson) Keith Urban will undergo throat surgery later this month to remove a polyp from his vocal cords. The out-patient surgery is considered a minor procedure, but the rehabilitation process requires a lengthy period of vocal rest.

The 44-year-old Urban will honor one-song performance commitments until the surgery takes place, but all subsequent scheduled appearances for this year will likely either be cancelled or rescheduled. The dates affected include a pair of Grand Ole Opry shows, originally set for November 12 and 26, and a gig as host for the "All for the Hall" benefit show for the Country Music Hall of Fame, which takes place on January 18.

Urban, who is married to actress Nicole Kidman, is nominated in the categories of Top Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year for this year's Academy of Country Music Awards, to be staged later this month. Urban joins KISS frontman Paul Stanley and British singer Adele among vocalists who have recently undergone surgical procedures involving the throat or vocal cords. more on this story
