Stevie Wonder is set to give a special performance when he is inducted into Apollo Legends Hall of Fame during The Apollo Theater's 2011 Spring Gala benefit.Wonder will be joined by several friends in a special evening dedicated to his legacy as an artist and philanthropist.
"Since his debut performance in 1962 as part of Berry Gordy's "Motown Revue," Stevie Wonder has a long history with the Apollo, and we are beyond thrilled that he will perform at the Gala," said Apollo President & CEO, Jonelle Procope. "Normally the artists being honored don't perform but what better way to celebrate the music and legacy of Stevie Wonder than hearing from the genius himself."
Stevie Wonder joins past inductees into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame legendary musicians, artists, and entertainers whose path to fame included the Apollo, including Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Patti Labelle, Smokey Robinson, James Brown, Gladys Knight, Little Richard, and Ella Fitzgerald. Each Apollo Legends Hall of Fame inductee is honored with a plaque on the Apollo Walk of Fame, installed under the Theater's iconic marquee.
