(Gibson) The Bobby Fuller Four may have sung "I Fought the Law," but when the law comes down on criminals, judges prefer to quote the lyrics of another bard. According to the LA Times, legal experts have determined that no artist has been quoted more in courtrooms than Bob Dylan.U.S. District Judge Robert Lasnik recalled hearing Dylan sing about injustice over the radio airwaves when he was growing up in New York City. "Suddenly there was someone speaking a certain kind of truth to you," he said. "You'd say, 'Wow! That's something I'm not used to hearing on the radio, something that moved me.'"
University of Texas law professor Alex Long agreed that the influence of Dylan is prevalent on Baby Boomer-era judges. "Everyone wants to believe that the music they listen to says something about who they are," he opined. "Being a judge is a pretty cloistered existence, having to crank out these opinions in isolation. Dylan was popular at the time they were coming of age and trying to figure out who they were.
