(Gibson) Melvin Sparks, the legendary acid jazz guitarist, has died of heart failure at his home in Mt. Vernon, New York. He was 64.Sparks first surfaced in the '60s and '70s as a soul-jazz guitarist (famously backing Lou Donaldson on the funk-jazz classics "Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky," "Hot Dog," "Donkey Walk" and "The Caterpillar.") and later played a key part on the acid jazz movement of the '90s.
