(Hollywood Records) Redlight King have announced the release of "Old Man," the first single from their upcoming debut CD "Something For The Pain." If the single's title rings a bell, it should -- "Old Man" features a first-ever sample of the classic Neil Young song of the same name. Young, who rarely entertains sampling requests, had never before approved the sampling of "Old Man" so it wasn't it a shock when initial requests were quickly denied. As Redlight King lead singer-songwriter Kaz tells it, ""I kept saying, 'What about Neil? When he hears it he's going to feel it. I kept putting it out there, finally it got to him and he said yes."
Written by Kaz, "Old Man" is not a cover but rather offers up a reluctant salute to his own father, a larger-than-life figure who taught school by day and raced stock cars at night, while paying homage to rock icon Neil Young's song of the same name. The song carries a deeply personal message with a thoroughly modern and original twist.
"Old Man" will be available on iTunes April 12, while the album "Something For The Pain" is set to release June 14. The Paul Minor-directed (Muse, Queens of the Stone Age) video for "Old Man", a raw and visual narrative of the song with a slice-of-life feel, has already received over 600K views after only one week online.
