The Felice Brothers have announced May 10th release date for their fourth full-length album Celebration, Florida. Next month, The Felice Brothers will embark on their previously announced six-week spring headlining tour of the US, Australia, and New Zealand.
The band has added two dates to the tour: a second show at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ, on March 28th to follow the sold out show on March 27th, and a show at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, CA, on April 27th as part of the Sings Like Hell concert series.
The Felice Brothers are also set to perform at this year's SXSW festival in Austin, TX, at Auditorium Shores on March 19th alongside Bright Eyes, Middle Brother, Man Man, and Kurt Vile, and will make their debut at the sold out Coachella festival in Indio, CA, on April 16th.
The Felice Brothers explore a multitude of sounds and instrumentation throughout the expansive Celebration, Florida, recorded in the library and theater of Beacon, NY's old high school.
Produced by Jeremy Backofen, the album is an exhilarating amalgamation of frightening horn sections, unexpected 808s, ambient synth lines, schoolyard taunts, booming, primitive drum beats, heavy bass lines, piano, violin, accordion, ringing guitars, rave beats, and sinister acid jazz that captivates and mystifies.
The inspired and imaginative, passionate and rollicking Celebration, Florida maintains the steadfast authenticity for which the band has become known and loved, while it expands upon the dark, woozy undercurrent of ramshackle barroom blues, vaudevillian atmospherics, and surreal storytelling of their previous albums.
Celebration, Florida casts interweaving scenes of dreamy characters and stories, including: a young girl who crimps her hair and spies her dead father driving down the road (the cinematic, roaring "Fire at the Pageant"); shady degenerates who get lost in a mystery surrounding a car (the clamorous groove and carnival horns of "Honda Civic"); a Wall Street scandal hits a little too close to home (the climactic, thunderous synth/sample/drum machine-laden "Ponzi"); and a late night host recounting his rise to fame for his honeybee while traveling in a private jet (the elegantly melancholic, rickety gait of "Dallas").
