Singled Out: Army of the Universe's LoveDead

06/27/2011
.
Today Lord Kalidon from Army of the Universe tells us about the title track from their brand new "LoveDead" EP. Here is the story:

Last year I was strumming my guitar, with the desire to write some lyrics about something new in my perspective. In fact many of my songs are really introspective, still personal, most of the times. It's like I'm used to put myself as the center of my dreams during the creative process.

Egoticism? Maybe so. But I never totally escape from my reality.
This time I wanted a different approach. I wanted to create a weird character. I needed to talk about something disturbing, still with some ironic reference with my perspective.

That's the genesis of LoveDead, our first single from the self named LoveDead EP. Of course I didn't sit and thought about "Ok-this-will-be-the-single". At least at first time. It was some kind of alchemy between me and Trebla, The first of many we usually have.

I remember He was in Japan, so I called him not caring about the time zone. I'm sorry I was in "fury-mode" so I really don't cared.
So it's like "Trebla please give me some stuff, I'm putting down a thing about a monster, please NOW!"

And he was like "Ok Lord give me five minutes, I'll do something for you."

"Ok thanks..." He had already turned off the phone.

Next things I've done in the next five minutes:

Took a coffee.

Watched some porno.

Eat my fingers.

Push ups.

Ok, incoming mail signal. Lets see!

It was a single loop. The one you can hear in the beginning of the song.

It was a blast to me. I was totally amazed. I had this twisted vision of a serial killer perspective speaking in first person.

Kinda fifteen minutes after the lyrics and the melody of LoveDead were born.

The verses are mainly about the imagery of the man-monster while the chorus is a come back to my personal experience and a more ironic point of view.

I can't be completely serious about myself, imagine if talking about a serial killer!

Then Chris Vrenna (former NIN, and keyboards player / drummer for Manson) was involved into Army of the Universe and one of the first things he said when he first listened to this song was that he immediately felt in love with it and he didn't heard anything like this since Nine Inch Nails. Which made us really proud!

That's why Chris wanted to join us not only co-producing the whole album, but also playing drums at live shows, starting with the last European performances.

We'll always be thankful to his brilliant cleverness and friendship.
Many asked me what's in my mind when I say "I drink too much to cover my RED". I think there are different ways to interpret this. It can be in a Baudelairian point of view, or in a more sarcastic and less poetic, but still dramatic and "Futuristic" intent.

I think the most ironic thing of it all it's that I wanted to talk about someone else from me, but I finished to put a little bit of me as always. I'm reckless!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
