(Rock News Desk) Eddie Vedder admits his ukulele-powered solo album started out as a joke and says the only reason Pearl Jam are making a new record is to avoid becoming a nostalgia act.His upcoming solo release Ukelele Songs features no other instruments except one track with a cello, and Vedder reveals his fascination with the small instrument came about when he borrowed part of a Who song.
"The opening chords to Pearl Jam's Soon Forget are unabashedly from the Who's Blue Red and Grey. Hearing that song when I was 13 legitimized the instrument it was just a beautiful piece of music," Vedder tells Rolling Stone. "After that I felt like I almost had to make a whole batch of songs to make up for the fact that one was 30 seconds of plagiarising
