(Gibson) Colombian singer-songwriter Joe Arroyo died Tuesday morning, due to heart failure, at a local hospital in Barranquilla, Colombia. He was 55.The news coincides with the announcement by the Latin Recording Academy that Arroyo would be a recipient of the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award among Gal Costa, Jose Feliciano, Alex Lora, Les Luthiers, Ruben Rada and Linda Rondstadt.
Arroyo began his career at the age of 15 and was part of various salsa bands such as Fruko y Sus Tesos and the Latin Brothers. In 1981, he started his solo project, Joe Arroyo and La Orquesta La Verdad, creating many hits and a unique sound that launched his international career. more on this story
