America's Dan Peek Dead at 60

(Gibson) Dan Peek, a founding member of the group, America, died on July 24. According to music-news.com, his website states simply: "Dan went to Heaven on July 24, 2011." He was 60 years old.Peek formed America with Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley in 1969 and had a string of international hits, including "A Horse with No Name," "Sister Golden Hair," "Ventura Highway" and "Lonely People." Peek quit the group in 1977 and began a solo career as a Christian musician. Bunnell wrote on the official America website: "Dan, along with Gerry & myself, formed the band America as teenagers after being great friends in high school during the late '60s. It was a joyous time for the three of us, full of excitement and laughter. We created lasting music together and experienced a life that we could never have imagined. Dan was an equal and integral part of that early history, and I have never forgotten the good times we spent making that music and learning about life together. more on this story
