Sharif has set a September 6th release date for his new five-song EP, which is called Almost There. Sharif will be previewing songs from the EP in a series of summer shows, including four Los Angeles dates on the Flash tour. Details about Sharif's fall U.S. tour in support of Almost There will be announced shortly.
"It's not about one particular girl," says Sharif, who was born in Virginia. "I got over all of my breakups when I wrote this song. I thought it would be funny to think about the things that aren't great about a relationship. I was sitting in my bed at 2 a.m. and this long list of things came to me. Candles in the bathroom, tofu in the fridge, magazines with pointers on what to do in bed - no, I don't miss any of those things!"
Almost There was recorded in 10 days in April 2011 at Tim Bradshaw's Studio 34 in Manchester, England. Bradshaw (John Mayer, David Gray, Josh Ritter), who played on Kisses and Lies, produced the EP and contributed keyboards and backing vocals as well. "Wander Back to You" features Jon Graboff (Ryan Adams, Norah Jones) on pedal steel guitar. "More For Me" captures the exhilaration of a new romance while "Dangerous Destination" is about not being able to sever a destructive relationship. Almost There also includes Sharif's interpretation of "Femme Fatale," the classic Velvet Underground song.
The track listing for Almost There is as follows:
1. I Don't Miss You
2. More For Me
3. Wander Back To You
4. Femme Fatale
5. Dangerous Destination
