(rephlektor) DJ Fresh's "Louder (ft Sian Evans)" has debuted at number one on the UK singles chart this week with sales of 140,000 – the second highest weekly sales number for all of 2011. In addition to this outstanding debut sales position, "Louder (ft Sian Evans)" is also #1 most-played record on BBC Radio 1 and topped the iTunes chart within a few hours of its release.
Musically, "Louder" pastes together pop, dubstep and drum n' bass and features Sian Evans, vocalist with British pop-dance group Kosheen, The track is also the theme for a widely aired TV commercial for the Lucozade Sport Lite drink and features LA's hottest roller skating talent; including one of the world's best freestyle skateboarders in Kilian Martin. The video is the brainchild of Ben Newman, the director behind DJ Fresh's first hit 'Gold Dust' which has received over 8 million views on YouTube.
Fresh tells Ministry Of Sound how this smash came about: ""I started 'Louder' at the end of last year, it began as an instrumental though it was always supposed to be a song with a vocal. I played it out at a festival in Belgium and the crowd went nuts! Sian Evans (who I knew from her days as front woman of Kosheen) and I had been talking about working on something together for a while and it seemed like the perfect track. I had a muffled recording of the chorus (with slightly different words), and I'd excitedly got out of bed to sing into my phone at about 3 o'clock in the morning one night. When Sian started scatting around it it worked perfectly, we changed a few words, notes etc and then wrote the verses, the whole song was written like that in just one night!"
DJ Fresh is currently playing the world's finest international festivals before heading to North America for two weeks of gigs at the end of July through early August. He's also in the midst of working on his new artist album has some collaborations in the pipeline with Flux Pavilion and Sian Evans, among others.
