Clap Your Hands Say Yeah To Open Philly's Union Transfer

07/13/2011
.
Philadelphia based band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will be the first band to rock the brand new Union Transfer in Philadelphia on September 21, 2011. Here is the announcement about the new venue and what else is coming up:

The Bowery Presents, an independent promotion company based in New York City, Sean Agnew of R5 Productions, and Avram Hornik and Mark Fichera of Four Corners Management announced today that they are opening a new live music venue in Philadelphia to be called Union Transfer.

Union Transfer, named after the original train depot station that occupied the building, was developed by the group to meet Philadelphia's need for a mid-sized live music space and will accommodate 600 people. The general admission venue boasts a flexible capacity and can manage up to 1,000 people for larger crowds. Located at 1004-26 Spring Garden St, steps from Center City, Union Transfer is slated to open on September 21, 2011.

Sean Agnew, a fixture in the Philadelphia indie-music scene, will be responsible for booking Union Transfer alongside Johnny Beach of Bowery Presents. Avram Hornik and Mark Fichera, who own and operate successful Philadelphia nightlife staples including Drinker's, Lucy's Hat Shop and Noche, will oversee all operations for the venue including production elements, concessions, box office and ticketing, ensuring a seamless live music experience. The group expects to book around 200 shows per year, targeting a cross section of live music from diverse performers.

"With Sean's finger on the pulse of the Philly indie-music scene, and Avram & Mark's expertise in operations, we are aiming to provide Philadelphia with the best possible concert-going experience," said Jim Glancy, The Bowery Presents. "Our philosophies are all shared and simple: offer a great live music experience at good prices with no hassle."

Aside from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, the inaugural lineup also includes RJD2 (on 10/14), Wild Flag (on 10/19), Gillian Welch (on 10/20), CSS (on 10/21), Dum Dum Girls (on 10/23), Friendly Fires (on 10/25), Boris (on 10/28), and We Were Promised Jetpacks (on 10/29).

"To finally have established an all-ages venue for independent live-music in Philadelphia is something I have been looking forward to for years," said Sean Agnew of R5 Productions. "We are thrilled that Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will be opening Union Transfer and look forward to bringing Philly music-lovers a great line-up throughout the year in a quality venue."
