Shakespeare's Globe London Cinema Series To Present Henry IV Part 1

07/11/2011
.
(Scoop) Shakespeare's Globe London Cinema Series continues with the London Globe Theatre's critically acclaimed production of Henry IV Part 1 starring Roger Allam, who won the Best Actor Olivier Award for his definitive performance as Falstaff in this production.

Henry IV Part 1 will be shown in select movie theaters across the U.S. at 6:30 p.m. local time on Monday, August 1. Shakespeare's Globe London Cinema Series, a stage-to-cinema presentation by NCM Fathom, Globe Theatre and Arts Alliance Media, is an exclusive four-part in-theater series of the most classic of Shakespeare titles in U.S. movie theaters nationwide this summer and fall.

Tickets for Shakespeare's Globe London Cinema Series are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations, prices and additional information, visit the Fathom website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

The four plays in the series were captured in 2010 from the prestigious and internationally renowned Globe Theatre in London- Shakespeare's theatrical London home. Each performance will also include a special 20-minute behind-the-scenes feature, providing insights into the working of the Globe today and a study of each production. Featuring interviews with the actors and creative team involved, these extra features bring the world of Shakespeare's Globe and the plays in the series to life for audiences.

Henry IV Part 1 is the second play in Shakespeare's tetralogy dealing with the reigns of Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V, and depicts a span of history beginning with Hotspur's battle at Homildon and ends with the defeat of the rebels at Shrewsbury in 1403. This work of honor, rebellion and the struggle for power is thought to have been written no later than 1597. From the start it has been an extremely popular play both with the public and the critics with Roger Allam winning the 2011 Olivier Award for Best Actor for his role as Sir John Falstaff. The cast also includes Oliver Cotton as King Henry IV, Sam Crane as Hotspur and Jamie Parker as Prince Hal. The creative team includes Dominic Dromgoole (Director), Jonathan Fensom (Designer), Claire Van Kampen (Composer and Musical Director), Siân Williams (Choreographer) and Philip D'orleans (Fight Director.)

Following Henry IV Part 1, the Shakespeare's Globe London Cinema Series continues with Henry IV Part 2 on Thursday, August 18 at 6:30 p.m. and closes with Henry VIII on Thursday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. The Merry Wives of Windsor was shown on June 27.

Shakespeare's Globe London Cinema Series will be broadcast in more than 275 movie theaters across the country through NCM's exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.
