Country Pioneer Charlie Louvin Dies

(Gibson) Country music legend and pioneer Charlie Louvin has died. He was 83. According to Country Weekly, Louvin died yesterday (January 26) in the early hours.The Country Music Hall of Famer and Grand Ole Opry member had been fighting stage two pancreatic cancer and underwent surgery last July. Musicians rallied around and held a fundraising benefit in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, in October. Charlie and his brother Ira, better known as the Louvin Brothers, had numerous hits in the '50s and early '60s. Ira and Charlie broke up in 1963 and Ira died in a car accident in 1965. Their country-gospel-bluegrass vocal style proved hugely influential to the Everly Brothers and, later, many country-rock acts like the Byrds and Emmylou Harris. more on this story
