(PR) On January 27, the Los Angeles Grammy Museum will host S'Talking Zappa: a Zappa-wise and Zappa-wide view of the Composer in Residence at the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen (UMRK), part and soul of the cottage industrial complex where Zappa hung his hat (the wide-brimmed pointy one, slightly crumpled at the top with the stars and comets on it) for virtually his entire adult life and career. This inside/multi/track discussion will examine the wherefores of Zappa's statement "Music is the Best!" and include audio and visual elements and live music presented by Gail Zappa with Todd Yvega and Joe Travers. The event will be moderated by Scott Goldman of the Grammy Foundation and include an audience Q & A.
Gail Zappa is the daughter of a rocket scientist, wife of composer Frank Zappa, mother of Moon, Dweezil, Ahmet and Diva Zappa. Writer, Art Director, Provocateur. Has changed a million diapers and a few minds - including her own.
Todd Yvega began life with a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Electronic Music with additional emphasis on Acoustics and Mathematics and is now a composer too. In 1989 he began working with Frank Zappa as his computer music specialist in which capacity he did extensive development of software customized for the highly esoteric needs of the composer.
Joe Travers is eerily gifted, being from Erie, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. He's been Dweezil Zappa's choice as drummer for 18 years, from Z to ZPZ. He is also the Vaultmeister, archiving and co-producing material from the Vault for the Zappa Family Trust since 1995. He has natural, unnatural and supernatural rhythm. Frank Zappa pronounced to Dweezil & Ahmet (at a concert by their rockin' teen-age combo, Z), "Now you've got yourself a real drummer."
