Devil Went Down to Georgia Co-Writer Tommy Crain Dies

(Gibson) Southern rock pioneer Tommy Crain, a 15-year veteran of The Charlie Daniels Band, as well as co-writer of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," has died, according to All Access. The guitarist died in his sleep on Wednesday.

Crain was with The Charlie Daniels Band for 15 years, beginning in 1975, and he appeared on more than 20 albums. He took home a Grammy for co-writing "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" in 1980, and he is credited with writing or co-writing more than 60 songs during his career.

Charlie Daniels paid tribute to Tommy on his website, saying: "Tommy Crain will always be a part of the CDB family, and his music will always be a part of the CDB sound. We have lost a good friend, and the world has lost a unique, creative and precious human being. We send our deepest condolences to the family of our brother. You were special, buddy. We're gonna miss you." more on this story
