Radio Station To Defy Gay Dire Straits Ban

A classic rock radio station in Canada will tonight defy the ban on the original version of Dire Straits' 1985 track Money for Nothing.The hit features the word "faggot" three times because writer Mark Knopfler wanted to demonstrate an example of unacceptable behaviour. When a Canadian station broadcast the uncut version in February last year, one person complained about the word in reference to a homosexual – and this week the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council upheld the complaint. The CBSC is a self-regulating body, which seeks to avoid government intervention by making broadcasters adhere to high standards.
