It's hard to believe that Sloan have been cranking out power pop hallmarks for two decades. And with the recent coups by Canadian bands – the least of which is not Arcade Fire's recent Album of the Year Grammy – it's equally hard to recall a time when albums like Twice Removed and One Chord to Another were the unabashed best rock albums coming out of Canada. But that indeed was the case.

Fast forward to the late 00's and Sloan were undoubtedly producing some of the best songs of their career. The band's epic 30-song opus Never Hear the End of It marked a new level of success and notoriety for the Halifax, Nova Scotia quartet, with the album being favorably compared to The Beatles' Abbey Road by the Wall Street Journal and with SPIN Magazine bestowing it with four stars and lauding it as, "the best British Invasion best-of you've never heard." Parallel Play followed strong soon after garnering praise from Pitchtodorks: "almost flawless," and All Music Guide "5 Stars."

The Double Cross, a titular shout-out to the band's 20th (or XX) anniversary, kicks off as awesome as universal health care with album-opener "Follow the Leader" and the sure-fire sync license riffage of "Unkind." The band's unique four-songwriter approach remains very much intact here, with every member contributing stellar songs.
