Today Johnny Bennett tells us about his brand new single "Gone Missing," which is now available at iTunes. Here is the story: Recording a great single should never be easy. Not if you're looking to take the long way around. If you feel like you're taking the easy way out here are a few ways to roughen the road. Always record a single at least three times with several producers. This allows for much needed confusion on stylistic direction etc. Try recording the single in different countries. This helps create budgetary madness and logistical nightmares.
Gone Missing, written by Chris Julian and myself, is centered on society's obsession with people that go missing and more so on how human nature pushes us all towards going missing in one way or another. It has also taken on a party aesthetic via numerous re-writes as well as increasing its tempo drastically.
By June 2010 Gone Missing had been recorded twice and my upcoming full-length release by the same name was nearly complete but still lacking any commercial viability.
Chris and I again took what we liked about the song into the studio for another re-write. We only kept the verse lyrics and concept while adding new pre-chorus and chorus sections along with a new bridge. Gone Missing was recorded in Los Angeles in Topanga Canyon and The Village Studios and mixed at Larrabee West Studios between July and September 2010.
